Students Make Hands of Peace to Help Celebrate the International Day of Peace

As part of the North Shore School District Respecting each other as Equal and Different (RED) initiative, Glen Head Elementary students in class took part in a project where they each drew their hands and created individual messages of peace.

Art Teacher Lisa Giurlanda said, “In honor of RED and the International Day of Peace, I worked with Brian Kline, Glen Head Enrichment Teacher, who went into every classroom to teach about peace and respect.” Students created their message of peace through words, drawings and symbols on their hands.  After each class completed their hands, their messages were displayed as a mural.  The mural was shaped as a map of the world.  The hands were positioned together to create seven continents to represent Diversity, Respect and World Peace.  Ms. Giurlanda concluded with, “The students put a lot of thought and creativity into their messages of peace!  The hands of peace represent peace, diversity and respect in the Glen Head School community.”
