North Shore Middle School held its first ever E3 Day on October 9, 2009.Thanks to the successful collaboration of administrators, faculty and parents, all 720 middle school students did not attend regular classes, but were engaged in exciting discussions and activities focusing on promoting important values emphasizing“Everyone Matters, Everyone Cares, and Everyone Learns.”
Over the past three decades, research has consistently indicated that schools identified by students, parents and staff as “caring communities” demonstrate more highly motivated students, harder working teachers, higher levels of student engagement, and ultimately, greater achievement scores. Additionally, caring “school communities” report fewer instances of bullying, harassment, violence, and drug and alcohol use by students.
Principal Marc Ferris concluded by saying, “We were willing to suspend all regularly scheduled classes because “E3” (Everyone Matters, Everyone Cares, and Everyone Learns) has the potential to make a difference in the way our students, staff and parents interact with one another and the community now and in the future.”
