Middle School Students Bake Prize Pies
Article by Jeanne Incantalupo

With a total of twenty-seven fruit pies entered in the Old Bethpage Village, the pastry competition was fierce! But the North Shore Middle School Baking 101 students were not intimated! Each group of students had prepared a fruit pie from scratch, including a homemade crust. The raspberry lattice pie, made by Emily Doering, Michelle Yoon, Ashley Gungor and Juliet Sabbatini brought home 2nd Place, while the mixed berry lattice pie made by Kenzie Cavaluzzo, Tanya Mehdizadeh, Talie Cohen and Sharon Seudat ranked Honorable Mention!

Executive Chef and Culinary Judge Amanda Hulver congratulated all the students who entered, and commented that the raspberry pie had a “perfect crust” and the mixed berry pie had an “amazing filling”. Homemade cakes were also entered into the competition by Talie Cohen, Kenzie Cavaluzzo, Kyle Cashin, Ashley Gungor and Carlos Peralta. Baking teacher Ms. Jeanne Incantalupo and her students would like to thank Principal Marc Ferris, Assistant Principal Gil Torossian and the volunteers at the LI Fair for making this experience possible.
