Fourth graders got to go inside the longhouse and learn about Native American life on Long Island. They examined various wildlife specimens including deer hides, animal bone tools and shell rattles. Additionally, the students participated in hands-on activities including Corn Grinding, Drumming, Wampum Necklace Making, and Native American Games.
Chris Puleo, otherwise known as Two Feathers, said, “The presentation brings messages of balance from heaven and earth to the students.” He added, “The goal of the program is to illustrate to the students the native communal connection with nature.”
Many thanks to Enrichment Teacher Audra Marcantonio and the other faculty and staff at Glenwood Landing for initiating such an exciting and educational event.
