Construction Continues This Summer on
North Shore’s TV Production & Recording Studio
Under the direction of technology teacher Bruce Fichtman, students in the Long Island Studies (LIS) Program as well as alumni of the North Shore Schools were hard at work in this summer heat on the new TV Production and Recording Studio. The Victorian style of the building is representative of the community architecture. Additionally, it is the first building at the North Shore School District that will be heated and cooled using geothermal energy.
This exciting endeavor marks the third innovative project initiated by the LIS Program which investigates global issues with a local hook. This is just one of five interdisciplinary humanities courses offered to seniors at North Shore High School. Several school districts have visited North Shore to observe these senior programs, which have been recognized as Programs of Excellence by the New York State Council of Teachers of English. Articles featuring this exciting endeavor have been featured in the local newspapers as well as On Board.
North Shore students and alumni participating this summer under the leadership of Mr. Bruce Fichtman include: Eric Borchert, Kohe Brooks-Burke, Dan O’Connor, Brian Goetz, Matt Wefer, Athanasios (Thanasi) Mokos, and Wyatt Aledor.
Over two years ago, Superintendent Dr. Edward Melnick and North Shore Trustees kicked-off an exciting groundbreaking ceremony for the state-of-the art TV Production and Recording Studio. This project is a collaboration between North Shore students and community members. It is funded by generous grants from the Viking Foundation. Supplies and services have also been donated by various contractors in the community. It is located at the front entrance of the North Shore High School campus. Please stop by and admire this wonderful new structure as our hardworking students and alumni add “Victorian details” to the outside and continue construction on the inside.
