Annual Mock Interview Job Fair
The students in Ms. Oleksiak’s 4th grade class at Glenwood Landing participated in a real-life, interdisciplinary experience. Through this exploratory process, children researched a college or university to which to apply and attend, selected a career that peaked their interests based on their strengths and talents, and created their fourth grade resume and portfolio to present at the annual “mock interview” job fair. Throughout this process, students practiced their public speaking skills to perfect their individual interviews.
On the day of the Mock Job Fair, administrators in the district including Principal Bridget Finder were given questions based on the children’s qualifications. Students dressed appropriately for their interviews, greeted their respective interviewers, and adeptly answered questions. Ms. Oleksiak concluded by saying, “I feel that this important practice has provided my fourth graders with a rich, interest-based experience that they will be able to use in the future.” Article and photos by Shelly Newman
