“Teacher vs. Teacher Basketball Game Raises $2,000 for Haiti
Article Written by Jeanne Incantalupo Photos by Adrienne Daley
Thousands of miles away from the devastation, North Shore Middle School students came together to raise $2,000 for a country victimized by one of Mother Nature’s worst disasters.

Upon hearing the news of the tragic earthquake that left Haiti in ruin earlier this month, NS Middle School students and teachers sprang into action. Like a well-oiled machine, the Global Citizens Club, advised by Mrs. Michelle Berger, began the school outreach efforts selling pizza afterschool. A time the same, the Student Government, led by Mr. Craig Roslund, rallied the students and faculty for an exciting “teacher versus teacher” Basketball Fundraiser, refereed by the eighth graders.

An upcoming fundraising effort will include the sale of a North Shore Middle School Community Cookbook, which has been sponsored by advisor Mr. Andrew Richter and the eighth grade board. The cookbook features recipes from students and their families, as well as teachers and administrators. It was complied through the efforts of Mrs. Barbara Brennan, Mrs. Sue Ring, Ms. Jeanne Incantalupo, and all their students. This Community Cookbook will be available for purchase by the Spring of 2010.

All donations from these important fundraisers will be sent to the American Red Cross on behalf of the North Shore Middle School. Special thanks to all of the students, parents, staff and administrators for their heartfelt efforts. It continues to prove that the North Shore Middle School community truly is a place where “Everyone Matters, Everyone Cares and Everyone Learns.”
