We are very proud that the North Shore School District is recognized as among the best in the country. We remain dedicated to providing each of our students with an education that nurtures and supports their continuous growth and development. We have one of the highest graduation/college attendance rates of all districts in the County, NY State, and the United States. Many of our students are admitted to the nations most highly selective colleges. We applaud our student’s successes:
I recently presented the 2010-11 Initial Budget Proposal. Our Trustees have a very difficult job this year, more so than any other Board that has sat before them. Our main goal is to maintain the scope of programs that we currently have at North Shore while providing the best education at the most reasonable cost.
Thank you to all of our Central Office, Building and Department Administrators for agreeing to take a half year salary freeze next year. Additionally, congratulations to our Business Office led by Olivia Buatsi, Assistant Superintendent for Business, for being one of only a handful of School Districts in New York State to be praised by State Comptroller Thomas Di Napoli who concluded that the district is “particularly well run, with well-developed financial policies, effective internal controls, and well-managed operations.”
In addition, Trustees continue to seek ways to reduce school costs and property taxes for our residents by leading other districts in lobbying Albany the NYS Legislature, NYS Education Department, and NYS School Boards Association to help change State laws. But, we need your help. We urge you to take an active role in determining the future of our district. Please ask your friends and neighbors to join us. If you have any budget questions, please call or email me and check our website at www.northshoreschools.org for updates.
Sincerely,
Dr. Edward Melnick
Superintendent of North Shore Schools
