Pam Osman Wins Miss Polonia 2010 Pageant

Congratulations to Emily Osman, a student of North Shore High School, who won the Miss Polonia 2010 Pageant sponsored by the Polish American Cultural Association (PACA). The event took place on July 31st at the Starlight Ballroom in Port Washington, New York.

To participate, contestants are required to be of Polish heritage. Emily's grandfather was Polish and her great-great grandpa immigrated to the United States. In March, Mr. Felix " Bud" Osman very sadly and unexpectedly passed away. Emily’s mother Pam Osman said, “She was very close to him and continues to have a lovely relationship with her grandmother.” Mrs. Osman added, “Emily participated in the pageant to honor her beloved grandfather and pay tribute to him. He always wanted her to get involved since it is an important event in the Polish community. Additionally, she participated to make her grandmother (Ann Osman) happy!”

The Miss Polonia Pageant is one of the PACA’s most successful events during the year. Each beautiful candidate is presented to the judges by cadets from The Kings Point Merchant Academy. The winner has the opportunity to attend the Pulaski Parade Banquet held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Manhattan in September 2010. Additionally, they have the privilege of marching up 5th Avenue on October 3, 2010 in the 73rd Annual Pulaski Day Parade where a magnitude of Polish Americans and Associations will come together to honor General Casimir Pulaski. Emily will be marching with other Polish Marshals and winners of the Miss Polonia Pageant in the tri-state area.
After winning, Emily revealed that, “This was a big deal for me because I usually do not like to step out of my comfort zone (the North Shore Schools Women’s Track and Field Team.) She concluded by saying, “I realized from this experience that I can enter any new chapter of my life knowing that I can achieve whatever I set out to do.”

Many thanks to Wendy Medina from Sleek hair design in Glen Head who not only gave Emily a great hairstyle but provided her with support and confidence. In addition, great appreciation goes out to Coach Neal Levy from the NS High School Women’s Track Team for his continuous support on and off the field.
