Principal Nimmo addressed her students and spoke eloquently about “Courage and Kindness” as she paid tribute to those who demonstrate these acts on a daily basis at her school and in her community. Many students came to the podium in recognition of the school bus drivers represented by Bob Kleber, security guard Vincent Papa, the school nurse Gloria Muth, the custodians, the policemen, the firemen including the brave men who helped the Doody family during their time of need, and Principal Lori Nimmo for her dedication to her students and her school.
A memorable moment of the ceremony came when John Paolillo, a Glen Head fifth grader, honored his uncle Battalion Chief John Paolillo who perished on 9/11. He reminded us that “Most people gave something that day, my uncle gave it all.”
The ceremony ended with the singing of God Bless the USA sung proudly by all of the students, staff, and faculty of Glen Head Elementary.
