Diane Krupin From the North Shore Schools
Accepted as a “Teacher Design Fellow for 2011”
Congratulations to Diane Krupin, North Shore School-Wide
Enrichment Teacher, who was recently accepted by the Verizon Center for STEM Learning at the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) as a “Teacher Design Fellow for 2011.”
It is the first year that the NYSCI has offered this competitive fellowship to innovative educators to help create, test and assess design-based approaches to teaching and learning that tap into contemporary STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)-related issues and serve as a catalyst for broader education reform. |

Interdisciplinary teams of two or three teachers from various schools were encouraged to apply. In this prestigious program, Mrs. Krupin will be able to work with colleagues and NYSCI staff to develop engaging STEM activities that involve children in design.
Mrs. Krupin said, “As educators, we often seek innovative and enriching ways to engage students in their learning. Design is an inventive, problem solving process that motivates students through their natural curiosity about the world and how things work.” She added, “This is a very exciting opportunity because it affords me the chance to work with experts in the field of design to develop, test, and evaluate design-based approaches to teaching and education. I look forward to sharing this learning experience with my students and colleagues at North Shore.”
