GWL Writers’ Workshop
Second graders at Glenwood Landing Elementary recently participated in a Writers’ Workshop as part of the English curriculum. Students worked diligently to write individual stories, utilize publishing pens (black markers), and officially publish their text. Additionally, they presented their original stories excitedly to their peers as well as kindergarten students.
The Writers’ Workshop unit titled “Launch” was an introduction to various genres. It enabled students to begin to “crystal” or develop specific ideas for their personal stories. Topics included their favorite animals, places of enjoyment or vacation, family members, favorite foods, or beloved activities. Their teachers including Mrs. Burmeister, Mrs. Minicozzi, and Mrs. Rienzo were very proud of their thoughtful “process work” as well as with their completed polished books. Many thanks to all of the kindergarten students for being such fantastic listeners! If you haven’t seen the finished books yet, please ask your second graders about their participation in theWriters’ Workshop. Happy reading!!!
