Theatre I
Designed for students with little or not theatre experience as well as for those with years of experience, this course provides an invigorating overview of theatre and theatre studies. Classwork includes fundamentals of directing, basic theatre history, set design and playwriting. Students will also get a taste of the art of theatre criticism with a trip to a theatre performance in NYC. This is a course for anyone with an interest in theatre because it offers a rare look into the universal impact of theatre on the world in which we live.

Theatre II
This course builds on the learning experiences of Theatre I. Students will have increased opportunities to direct, design sets and engage in playwriting that can culminate in performance before an audience. A trip to a theatre performance in NYC will be scheduled.
Prerequisite: Theatre I or permission of the Theatre faculty
Introduction to Acting
Students learn the basic techniques of acting by participating in theatre games and improvisations that encourage them to respond actively and imaginatively to themselves, their environment and each other. They do voice and diction exercises. They also choose and prepare monologues and scenes which are worked on in class, incorporating class suggestions for improvement.
Prerequisite: None
Advanced Acting
Building on the skills and techniques of the introduction class, this course explores techniques of scene and character analysis and provides opportunities for students to develop the skills needed to employ these acting tools. Students participate in improvisational exercises in preparation for the culminating work for each unit, a monologue or scene from dramatic literature.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Acting or permission of the Theatre faculty
