NUTRITION COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 20, 2007 AT 10:00A.M.

 

 

Members Present: Robyn Cartagine, Elizabeth Guercin, Liz Kaplan, Stephanie Leis, Kathy Ligure, Marge McCarrick

 

·        Meetings will be held the 2nd Thursday of each month, in the Alumni Room unless otherwise notified.

 

·        Since roasted potatoes were added to the menu, High School sales went up 40 meals a day.

 

·        Pop tarts have been eliminated from the High School, as well as the Cup of Soup which contained too much sodium.

 

·        Fries at all schools are now baked not fried.  The chicken nuggets are now breaded with whole wheat breading.

 

·        Chocolate chip cookies are back now as a snack.  However, they are whole grain chocolate chip.

 

·        A question was asked, can we switch from bagels to whole grain bagels?  Marge will check into this.

 

Marge presented the group with some canned fruit juice samples.   It was felt that most of the juices contained too much sugar, however, the apple and the orange juice were deemed not too sugary and delicious.  Marge is awaiting more juice samples from the vendor before making a final decision.  Marge also presented the group with some snack choices, of which the bag of nuts and raisins seemed to be the best and healthiest option.  The bag of nuts and raisins will be offered at the High School.
