PRINCIPAL FINDER'S MESSAGE

During the first week of school, Glenwood Landing staff will be available to help all students find their way to their classrooms. Supervision begins at 8:15 AM each day, and school begins at 8:25 AM.  Students are released at 2:40 PM. Please see the enclosed arrival and dismissal procedures for more detail.

If your child needs to be at school before 8:15 AM or after 2:40 PM, you will need to register him or her in advance for the North Shore Before/After School Child Care due to tightened security measures. Families who have not registered and paid the registration fee will not be able to send their child to the program. A registration form has been included in this packet.

Information pertaining to transportation will be mailed directly to your home from the Transportation Department. If you have any questions regarding transportation, please contact Frank Meditz, Supervisor of Transportation at 277-7930.

School lunch will be available in the cafeteria for grades 1-5 beginning on Thursday, September 8th. Kindergarteners will not be able to purchase lunch until September 19th. Menus will be distributed on the first day of school. The cost of daily lunch is $3.00 which includes milk or juice and, if purchased separately, milk is available for $0.60 per container. Checks should be made out to North Shore Schools Lunch Fund (with child’s name and pin number). Please contact the Food Service office at 277-7090 with any questions.

The SCA has set up a specific fund to help support families so that no student will go without what they need to be successful in school.  All requests will be kept confidential.  Situations may arise that present financial hardship for families. If you need assistance with school supplies, trip costs, or other school related costs, please contact me directly.

Enclosed you will also find other pertinent information with regard to the beginning of the school year. Please review these materials and return the Health Emergency Card and Student Information Card to your child’s teacher on the first day of school. It is imperative that we update our information each year.

There is much to celebrate at Glenwood Landing School including great parent involvement, student achievement, and teacher dedication. I am thrilled to begin another year with the teachers, parents, students, and community of Glenwood Landing as we continue to move forward to achieve student success.

Our building and district share a common focus on quality instruction for every student. This school year will be spent exploring the Common Core Learning Standards, recently adopted by New York State. Please reference the CCLS website for more information: http://www.corestandards.org.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Please utilize the school website, www.northshoreschools.org, and check your email accounts for notices. If you do not have an email account, please inform us so we may communicate important information in another way.

Sincerely,

Bridget Finder
Principal
