North Shore HS AP Drawing Student Receives Award of Excellence
Congratulations go out to AP Drawing student, Glaire Gochna, who received the Award of Excellence in the Go Ape! Advanced Placement Exhibition for My Fallen Mask, an acrylic on canvas, at the Art League of Long Island. She is one of eight out of 86 student artists who received this recognition. Glaire Gochna is a talented art student in Ms. Margaret DeLima’s class at North Shore High School.
Dalia Rodriguez said, “I want to recognize the wonderful news that Glaire Gochna received the Award of Excellence from the jurors of the Advanced Placement Art Exhibit. Being one of only 8 students out of 86 across the county to receive this recognition is truly a remarkable accomplishment and speaks to both Glaire’s dedication and the thoughtful guidance, devotion, and mentorship of NS High School Art Teacher Ms. Margaret DeLima.” She added, “Your care for your students and your commitment to nurturing their artistic growth is deeply appreciated. Achievements like this highlight the extraordinary work happening in our visual arts classrooms and the creativity, skill, and voice our students are able to develop under their teacher’s guidance.”
The Art League of Long Island’s Go Ape! is an annual juried exhibition showcasing 2D and 3D art from high school Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) students across Nassau and Suffolk counties. The 2026 exhibit took place this March 7-21 at the Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery in Dix Hills, featuring exceptional student work. It included numerous paintings, sculptures, photography, and digital art. The event provides a professional venue for young artists to showcase their talent, with works selected by art teachers and adjudicated by a professional juror.
North Shore High School Principal Eric Contreras stated, “We are all beyond grateful for the many ways Ms. DeLima nurtures artistic talent, that bring out our students’ creativity, brilliance, and humanity to bear in the most beautiful and expressive artistic forms. Great art begins with great art mentorship. Thank you for what you do and congratulations to you and Glaire Gochna!”
